Playing career
Former South African professional and international level footballer before moving into coaching.
- Played for clubs including Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
- International club experience included Greece, Belgium and Qatar.
Mamelodi Sundowns (2012 to 2020)
Built one of the defining coaching periods in modern South African club football.
- Won five Premier Soccer League titles during his Sundowns tenure.
- Led the club to its first CAF Champions League title in 2016.
- Established a reputation for sustained domestic success combined with continental competitiveness.
Al Ahly (2020 to 2022)
Extended his continental success with one of Africa’s most historic clubs.
- Won back to back CAF Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021.
- Achieved consecutive bronze medal finishes at the FIFA Club World Cup.
South Africa head coach & international management
Appointed head coach of South Africa’s senior men’s national team in September 2026 after extensive national team and international club experience.
- Confirmed by SAFA as the new head coach of Bafana Bafana on 1 September 2026.
- Managed clubs including Al-Ahli Jeddah, Al-Wahda, Abha and Esteghlal.
- Secured promotion to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ahli Jeddah.
Honours, education & grassroots legacy
His work increasingly extends beyond first team management into coach and youth development.
- Recognised as CAF Coach of the Year.
- Received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Johannesburg.
- Founder of Pitso Mosimane Youth Football (PMYF).
