A player may be free to sign a new employment contract and still have a football history that matters financially. Training rewards are not the same as a transfer fee, an academy service payment, a player reward or a NEXTGEN contribution.
Why registration history matters
FIFA’s Clearing House system uses player registration information to identify possible training reward events. The electronic player passport records registration history from the age of 12 and gives clubs and associations a process to review the information used for allocation.
Two different concepts
- Training compensation can reward eligible clubs for investment in the training and education of a player when the regulatory conditions are met.
- Solidarity contribution can allocate part of qualifying transfer payments to eligible clubs involved in the player’s development history.
Being a free player does not erase the past
A player can be genuinely out of contract while previous registered clubs still have separate regulatory rights. A private academy or development pathway should not be used to hide a current club’s release position or to bypass a training club’s entitlement.
NEXTGEN keeps these rights separate
NEXTGEN support, a private development payment, a club future sale, a player transfer participation and FIFA training rewards are different concepts. One should not silently replace another. Where the FIFA Clearing House or another mandatory mechanism applies, that process takes priority over inconsistent private payment instructions.
The exact entitlement depends on the current FIFA rules, the player’s registration record, the relevant transaction and other applicable rules. Clubs and academies should keep registration information accurate and seek specialist advice where a training reward question arises.
