A football relationship becomes safer when the sporting decision and the support decision are clearly separated. A club should choose whether to scout, sign, employ or register a player for football reasons, not because a contribution to NEXTGEN buys access to that player.
What support can do
- Support a defined scholarship, development, education, welfare, scouting or community programme.
- Fund an agreed public benefit purpose with appropriate records and impact reporting.
- Create a long term partnership around opportunity and development without interfering with player choice.
- Recognise positive player pathway impact through a lawful, separately documented partnership.
What support must never confer in return
- Ownership or economic rights in a player.
- A guaranteed player signing, selection, renewal, transfer or sporting milestone.
- Football agent services or an unlicensed transaction success fee.
- A claim over player salary, commercial income owned by the player or the player’s own transfer participation right.
- Transfer compensation, future sale rights, training compensation or solidarity that belongs elsewhere under the football system.
- Control over NEXTGEN beneficiary selection, safeguarding decisions or Foundation governance.
Impact reporting without sporting influence
Partners can receive proportionate information about how approved support was used and what outcomes were achieved. That accountability does not create a right to direct a player’s career, override safeguarding or influence a club’s independent sporting judgement.
