NEXTGEN Foundation congratulates Pitso Mosimane following his appointment as head coach of South Africa’s senior men’s national team, Bafana Bafana.
The South African Football Association officially confirmed the appointment on 1 September 2026, marking a major new chapter in the career of one of Africa’s most decorated football coaches.
A return to national team leadership
Mosimane returns to the leadership of Bafana Bafana with extensive experience across national team football and elite club environments in Africa and the Middle East. His career includes sustained domestic success, three CAF Champions League titles and a long term commitment to coach education and youth development.
Leadership that strengthens African football
Pitso brings deep knowledge of African football, championship level standards and an understanding of what players and coaches need to progress at the highest level. His appointment is an important moment for South African football and reflects the value of experienced African leadership at the top of the international game.
Pitso’s national team position is separate from his advisory contribution to NEXTGEN. NEXTGEN does not represent SAFA or Bafana Bafana, and his advisory role does not give NEXTGEN any authority within the national team.
